Hmmm... I really don't treat my children exactly like I treat myself. And, I don't believe that this is a "self esteem crusher". I send them to bed earlier than my husband and I retire. I frequently go to fine restaurants without them. Sometimes when we dine at another family's home, the children are fed a more simple meal, separately, in the kitchen (and then play while the adults linger over good food, wine and conversation) Children are not adults-- being a child has priviledges and drawbacks. Two years ago-- My husband and I even went on an entire vacation to Paris without them!
The "message" I believe they are receiving en route to Honolulu is: "Yahoo! We are going to Hawaii!" Frankly, if my husband weren't nearly 6'4" and could travel in Y without having his knees crushed, we would probably all go in Y. Not because we feel the children should experience the same service level we do, but because I am cheap!

As you are most likely not 6'4 you should travel in Y and save some money for your next trip.
