I completely agree with *Jumper Jack*: I don't see how it's legal for them to go on the travel, rather than purchase date - if I was holding an R class ticket, which is completely nonref, I'd be incensed now (but I'd just escalate and probably ultimately get a waiver, though).
It isn't legal to sell one thing and deliver something different. They just count on people not wanting to bother fighting over it.
