Scenario:
- I hold a TYP card (say, Forward) with points with expiration date N.
- I also hold a second TYP card (e.g., Premier) for which the points never expire, or for which the expiration is later than N.
- I have an immediate need to redeem TYP for an award.
- I also plan to close card #2 (e.g., Premier) in the near future, but not before I make my TYP redemption.
If my accounts are combined, my redemption will always come from the card #1 pool of points. When I cancel card #2, I'll then have to contrive some way to use the points from it (which will suddenly have a 60-day expiry).
If my TYP accounts are separate, I can burn card #2 points at will.
