Papa India - 18 June 1972
On the afternoon of Sunday 18 June 1972, 44 years ago today, a BEA Trident G-ARPI took off from Heathrow bound for Brussels. As it crossed Staines Moor, it stalled and fell out of the sky.
All 118 lives aboard were lost.
I have just returned from the annual memorial service at St Mary's Church, Staines which was attended by relatives, the local community and representatives from BA and the emergency services.
If you are travelling today, please spare a thought for those who didn't reach their destination that day.
