Even with no checked bags, he will need to go thru passport control and then thru the customs area and duty free store. A GOL flight will likely leave from the far pier in Terminal 2 (the old Terminal 1) and that is a 15 minute walk plus going thru security. There is a recheck desk area after exiting the Customs area if the boarding pass has not already been obtained. Could been done if flight is on time and lines are not too long. Still risky. I prefer 3 hour connections.
