NZ/AUS with Credit Card Transfer Partners
I'm beginning my research on getting to New Zealand and/or Australia using all of the points I have scattered about. I've been churning with Chase, Citibank and Amex also have decent banks with DL and UA. Rough numbers:
DL - 250K
UA - 60K
Chase UR - 130K
Citi TYP - 75K
Amex MR - 60K
To get an idea of what I have to spend and where, I threw together a spreadsheet showing what I could have with all of the transfer partners. For example, the 295K DL potential is the 250K already there and the potential to move 60K MR @ .75/1. Unfortunately there is not much overlap in the transfer partners.
Aeroplan 60,000
Alitalia 45,000
Asia Miles 120,000
British Airways 190,000
Delta 295,000
Etihad 120,000
Eva Air 75,000
Garudada Indonesia 75,000
KLM/AF 75,000
Korean Air 130,000
Malaysian 75,000
QANTAS 75,000
Qatar 75,000
Singapore 205,000
Thai 75,000
United 190,000
Virgin America 37,500
Virgin Atlantic 205,000
Other data:
- Most likely doing this solo. Don't think I can survive Y for that long, so minimum of J.
- Based in DTW, but YYZ and ORD are possible drives to start - or a cheap flight to the west coast.
- Normally prefer to travel shoulder season (April maybe?), but would like over Christmas too as I have that week off and it minimizes burning vacation time. I do realize that is high season.
- Flexible on routing and stopovers along the way. I am even willing to build the destination based on availability, but probably looking for a mainly driving tour around NZ.
From what I have seen so far in my limited searching.
- Delta seem insanely high in points and taxes.
- Singapore looks interesting with their stopover awards, but lots of extra overflying.
Obviously I'm not expecting anyone to build a routing for me, but any expertise on which airlines to focus on for best award availability is appreciated. Thanks!
