No, there is solid background evidence flying around, nothing to do with EK adding a 2nd daily service. EY has recently strengthened up its position in MEL by introducing A380 services just a few weeks ago and opening a new lounge, in addition to a new daily flight added last year. EK has up-gauged an additional daily flight to A380 and have also opened a new lounge at MEL- in addition to their strong partnership with QF. QR is definitely in a very weak position in MEL with their 1 daily service, there is no indication of up-gauge to A380 and they won't be able to add a standalone service due to bi-lateral restrictions.
But I think this case is more about ADL, and how the route is not performing as expected, but also strengthening MEL at the same time.
