Stories like this are pretty common. I don't understand why companies don't use a public cloud where scaling is not an issue. Azure/AWS, etc. I'm assuming a few things but if your company had chosen to use something of that nature it would not have happened.

We use two AliCloud servers, with a mid level spec set up.
Azure is out of our price range.We got everything back online in about 10-15 minutes thankfully after working it out. But resulted in roughly 2000 RMB loss based on our average conversation rate.
I was in a product meeting at the time so was not aware of the exact technical details. Will c check with our IT team today to find out exactly what happened.
