One thing that is being revealed at WWDC is that iOS 10, which is due in the fall, will have an API for extracting RAWs from the cameras of the most recent iOS devices -- iPhone 6S and the 9.7-inch iPad Pro.
So camera apps. would be written to save RAWs instead of JPGs from compatible devices.
Of course I mostly shoot videos and panoramas with my iPhone so it won't matter but nice to have the option.
