The problem is that I already booked the transatlantic (and am connecting onward from MIA to POS) months ago. I just thought that, while I'm in the UK, I could do a neat hop to Lisbon for the weekend before heading back over the pond. It would seem to be little effort to phone AA and check to see how much it would cost to change the AA booking to originate the US bound journey in LIS. If there is little or no cost to change the booking , may make it easy to visit LIS
If it is a US originating booking, POS-LHR, to modify to POS-LHR/LIS-POS the change fee is likely $250 for an economy booking with the total fare and taxes being about $42 less, giving a cost of $208
If a cheap I class business fare, the total cost after paying change fees could be about $100 cheaper to change to POS-LHR and then return LIS-POS
