CITI is probably very upset today anyway with the news that the original CHASE Freedom card is keeping Costco (as well as other warehouse stores) as a 5% cashback category for the remainder of the year. That move completely negates the advantage of cardholders simply changing from the Costco AMEX card to the new CITI COSTCO VISA. If CITI overestimated their income from the new COSTCO relationship you might just see those retention offers improve down the road.
