For my last question, I wouldn't just do it. I was asking if Delta would consider just canceling EWR>DTW>LAX leg for the departure. You think there is pretty much a 0% chance they would modify my itinerary?
If you had a minor sked change 0.000000001% chance they'd let you change to a different NYC airport
If you had a relatively major sked change 99.9% chance they'd let you change to a different NYC Airport - JFK/LAX/SYD/LAX/JFK
If you had a relatively major sked change 0.01% chance they'd let you change to ATL/LAX/SYD/LAX/ATL and less than that they'd let you change to just LAX/SYD/LAX.
0.0% chance they'd let you just drop segments EWR/DTW/LAX segments.
If you had booked the flight something like BHM/ATL/LAX/SYD and had a sked change there is a 50/50 chance you could say that you'd just "drive" to ATL and they'd drop the BHM segment.
I'd 100% plan on traveling the itinerary you booked.
