Whatsapp calls were fine - used it to call my wife who was travelling with me, rather than paying the 20 cents per minute (x2) to make a regular call. Even was able to upload videos to Whatsapp without it taking forever.

Surprisingly, the slowest thing was webpages - even mobile optimized ones.

Thanks for the info. I just looked at the Simple Choice plan again and it looks like it comes with 2GB of 4G LTE data for $50 for first phone, then discounts for more lines. I guess it goes to 128 speeds after the 2GB is used up. I wish I could get a 128kbps plan since I won't really need the faster speeds. I'll be in wifi zones mostly, so only need the data occasionally.
