I've heard that the SS is somewhat narrow/ cramped on the 77W that flies out of LAX? However, I've sat on some angled lie-flats before (not on JAL though), and my only complaint is that it lacks privacy.

I don't find the 77W cramped, of course it depends on your comparisons. Especially the window seats are very enclosed and private. Some people might perceive that as cramped.
