Angry Service Fees

I've just booked an international multi-stop trip. I could not book it on the Air NZ website (too complex) so rang Air NZ who promptly made the bookings (8 stops with a mix of Economy and PE) in about 10 minutes as I had the exact itinerary I wanted.
Lo and behold when my Travelcard statement arrived they had charged me $120 on top of the $11,000 worth of fares for my wife and me. I rang the agent who simply said that was the rules when a service agent was involved and she wasn't going to reverse the charge, even though I had no way of making the booking myself online.
In percentage terms $120 may be small but this just smacks of price gouging. The fact that I could not do it myself, that I've been a Elite Gold for 10 years and that most of my bookings are full-fare (flexi-plus) did not count for anything.
If Air NZ want to retain customers like me who have spent nearly half a million dollars with them on premium fares then they will have to stop this ridiculous fee gouging. Not happy
Has anyone else had any unsavoury or unreasonable experiences with 'add-on' fees?
