I had the cruel beep on an AA flight recently. I normally book the P/A fares in F but on this occasion as I was recharging the costs to a customer I didn't want to. The cruel beep on boarding was to remind the gate attendant to check I was OK with an exit row

On the plus side I was moved to F once everyone had boarded as there was a free seat so it worked out in the end .
