Flight was delayed due to a water leak into the electrics. They had boarded business/exec cards (about 40 of us) and then we were asked to get off with our bags, as there was a technical problem. Have to say, BA customer service for me was outstanding (and I hope proof that being nice rather than screaming and shouting helps).

After we were taken off the plane, the initial indication was a 2hr delay. I was on a connecting flight at BKK to SIN with 2hrs10mins connection, so I walked back from C gate to the lounge at B and when I was there, they rebooked me onto a later connection (and also held a seat on one after that in case there was a further delay).

I then headed back to the FLounge until they showed a 2015 takeoff, and I headed back over C at around 1945. When I got there, they were announcing more problems and delays. Frustrating, it showed on the BA app that it was delayed until 1300 the next day BEFORE anyone from BA at the gate had been told - I did feel for them, as they then started to get a barrage from people asking what was happening.

In front of me there was someone who appearing just short of waving his actual gold card above his head and shouting DYKWIA, whilst getting increasingly loud. I needed to be in SIN today, so I again went over to the B lounge, where they were brilliant again. They tried to get me on the BA direct to SIN, looked to see if they could route via somewhere else into SIN, and then gave me the choice to switch over to SQ as an involuntary reroute. That gave me 1hr45 to get from T5 to T2, alas my bag didn't make it (but they were clear it probably wouldn't). I left with a cheery "thank you" for their efforts for me, and was rewarded when I got to the SQ transfer desk to discover I was now travelling in a First Suite. I have no idea if that was all that was available, or if someone hit the wrong button, or if someone at BA was being nice to me. But as I sat drinking Krug and eating lobster for the first time ever on a plane, I did ponder if "shouty man" was comfy in his airport hotel whilst I was travelling in luxury. It was no one at the gate/in customer services fault, so why take it out on them. I was friendly and like to think I got my just deserts!

Now for a quick question - am I entitled to the tier and Avios points from my original route (and how do I claim them), and can I be cheeky as also claim Star Alliance points as well from the SQ rerouting?
