I've encountered this style as much in N America as I have in Europe; occasionally in Asia as well. They seem to be in vogue now. I have sometimes experienced the problem with water getting out onto the floor which is annoying. The better designed units though are fine. My wife, though, sometimes complains that they cause a draft while showering.
