number_6, I'm curious about this comment, partly regarding where you recommend in NZ (besides Huka Lodge, which I seem to remember you put in your Top 10) and so why 'paradise is now in NZ' - is this due to price/service/safety/the country itself? I'd also be curious to hear how the top end establishments there stack up against those elsewhere?
Thanks.</font>
This is really a topic for another thread, but the short answer is
yes. I rate NZ highly because it offers a great travel experience (diverse scenery, activities and ambience with high quality service and food). Some of the best service is free (friendly locals). The internet has changed NZ--quite dramatically--and it has been for the better. A backward country has caught up to the rest of the world without losing it's charm and remaining unspoiled. Now NZ has world-class food (including high-skill items such as chocolate).
I prefer Queenstown/Arrowtown/Christchurch in the south island and Thames in the north.
But there are dozens of great places (a month in NZ isn't enough to see the whole country). As for price, it is great value at all price points.
