My family (wife, me and our 3 kids) are flying BA Club World to Canada for our Summer holiday in August for the following reasons:
1) we looked at a tailor made holiday in January through a UK travel agent when the BA sale was on - whilst the flights weren't separately priced as we bought a "flight + car + accommodation" package, the total for 5 of us in Club was only around £1.2k more for all of us in Club than WTP would have been (with WT+ commanding a similar premium above WT).
2) we live in Yorkshire and it was actually cheaper to fly to Calgary from Manchester via LHR with BA than it was direct with BA from LHR - crazy!
3) the way I look at it, we are spending something like £250 more each to fly in Club than WTP (as having made 2 return economy trips to Montreal in BA's 787 last year, I vowed "never again"). For the £250 per head, we will hopefully have a pleasant experience, use the BA lounges, enjoy the much better food and drink, arrive relaxed and rested and, in effect, the flight becomes part of the holiday rather than something you dread......giving us 2 extra days.
I reckon that the 5 of us will be flying MAN-LHR-YYC-LHR-MAN in Club for around £7k-£7.5k in total. It's a lot of money, sure, but for all of the reasons above, a price I am lucky enough to be able to afford and happy to pay given my current circumstances. And the irony is that I am sure there will be people in the same cabin as us on the transatlantic flights who have paid as much for 1 seat on a full fare ticket as we have paid for 5 seats....which will make the champagne taste even better!
