That has been both good and not-so-good crews.
I'm not denying that they maybe should, but just not my experience. I wouldn't plan on CC helping to find a place for a bag that won't squeeze in.
That's probably because you haven't needed any help, the upper deck crew will always stow larger bags in the wardrobe at the top of the stairs if asked or if bags do not fit in the lockers.
