Talking about AI 143, I just checked its history timings wise and its been delayed like 2 hours everyday for the last week or so. And its the same with almost all AI flights MAA-DEL. I feel I should definitely switch to an earlier flight.

I wouldn't - since you clear immigration and customs in MAA, it's possible to make that connection in half an hour. AI typically will meet you at your arrival gate and escort you to the departure.
