TravelinWilly, you should enjoy the Hilton - that would be my choice of the Auckland hotels I've stayed at. I was disappointed by the rooms and decor at the Sheraton, though service was good. I've heard the Heritage isn't bad either.

If you wanted something a bit different, McMahon's Villa Hotel in Parnell looks pretty nice, and got a favourable review in Conde Nast Traveller.
