There's something sneaky going on here!
Some hotels, such as that Washington Crowne Plaza, happily offer the choice of 1000 or 5000 points on the standard IHG website.
If that's the case, you'll be able to book the 5K rate in the app.
On the other hand, some hotels have now hidden the 5K option. My regular hotel has done this - you will only see options for 1K per night, rather than 5K per stay.
You can "force" a 5K rate on these hotels on the website by booking via this page:
http://www.ihg.com/hotels/gb/en/glob...X-MHR-BPP.html
(or similar in other markets). That then takes you to a special version of the hotel's rates page where you can choose 5K.
Sadly, there's no such workaround via the app - at least not that I'm aware of!
EDIT: Annoyingly, on hotels that have hidden the 5K option, you can't even modify the rate to the 5K one after booking - which may have been a way around it (as in book a standard rate with the app, change it on the normal website).
