Could it be that the TFC on one or more of the other flights on your itinerary (different to your friend's) have gone up and since you are now repricing the whole ticket, you are liable for the higher total?
The fare component is the same, only taxes difference in taxes were charged.
The differences between my flights and my friend are small: I fly SEA-JFK he flies SEA-SFO and then I fly BKK-HKG-MEL he flies BKK-HKG-AKL.
Taxes on the whole ticket were about 17000 ZAR, a 20% increase in a 2 months period (between april when I booked it and june where it was reissued). The problem is that I cannot see a breakdown of the taxes on BA or other site to be sure is the APD.
