72 hours out with the F cabin more than half empty, it's not about upgrades vs selling seats, it's about GGUs and instant upgrade fares vs free upgrades. For me, it's those opportunities to spend a bit more and upgrade early that really make the AS value proposition compelling. With most of my segments 5-6 hours, and not liking to spend that much time with my shoulders twisted to fit a coach seat, MVPG has been very much worth having. With this stuff, the move to 12 F on the 738s, and ever-cheaper fares for discount first on other carriers, I'm not sure that will still be true a year from now.
