Just a point of interest, DL did initially have the same spring-loaded tray table mechanism, but replaced that with the current iteration due to passenger problems with them. As for the upholstery, I personally dislike the idea of sleeping on a cloth seat due to the ability for general nastiness to build up and not be easily cleaned. I just lay an extra duvet (the FAs have no issue accommodating this IME) over the seat in bed mode, which also helps with padding. I do wish DL would introduce mattress pads for D1, though.
