I suspect ebates does not know the reservation number because once it rolls over to IHG I think communication stops between the two sites, so speculating the check in date and the name is the only way to cross reference the money going to ebates via the travel agent number that is in the reservation. But I don't really know.

Ebates absolutely DOES know the reservation number!!!
If you look at your "cash back on purchases" on the ebates website, under "order number" the reservation number is shown for hotels. In the case of IHG hotels, an alpha code identifying the hotel is appended to the number. (This is something that varies by hotel chain. I notice, for example, that a Hilton res is just shown with the res number and nothing appended.)
