SUMMARY: Eastman Kodak Co. is under fire for firing an employee for disagreeing with the company's position on supporting gay and lesbian workers.
Eastman Kodak Co., known for its support of a diverse workforce, is under fire for firing an employee for disagreeing with the company's position on supporting gay and lesbian workers.
Millwright Rolf Szabo, a 23-year employee at Kodak, was fired in early October after he responded to an internal company memo sent by a supervisor. The memo included guidelines for managers on how to handle and support a GLBT employee coming out on the job.
Szabo issued a response to the memo, writing, "Please do not send this type of information to me anymore as I find it disgusting and offensive." Instead of forwarding his response to just the originator of the memo, Szabo inadvertently sent the e-mail to more than 1,000 other Kodak Employees who had received the memo.

While I fully support Szabo's right to hold whatever beliefs he wants, I think this kind of comment was completely inappropriate in a business setting, and agree with Kodak's decision.
