It has been confirmed elsewhere, as have other aspects of these changes and listed in the wikipost.

Nothing prevents AA from changing their mind. But consider Platinum, though still oneworld Sapphire, takes a drubbing because upgrades will be, within status level (and Plat gets pushed down one level) by EQD accrual, and loses the 72 hour upgrade window (becomes 48 hours).
