$35 Airport Service Fee when only option to purchase tickets - unfair?
On the Memorial Day holiday I was due to fly home from FAT to LAS with Allegiant but owing to that flight posting a delay, bad attitude from the Allegiant staff, a need to get home, and a feeling that the delay would rapidly turn into a cancellation (it did) I decided to buy a one-way ticket with AA from FAT - PHX - LAS.
It wasn't possible to purchase the ticket online via the AA app. Equally it wasn't possible to purchase the ticket at a kiosk (even though the kiosks have credit card slots). It also wasn't possible to purchase the ticket over the phone. The only option was to purchase the ticket at the counter, for which I was charged a $35 airport service fee over and above the cost of the ticket.
Is there any point in asking AA to refund this charge? I can fully understand the service charge if I just rock up and buy a ticket that I could have purchased online. However, when the ticket can only be purchased at the airport counter it seems a little unfair. Any thoughts or previous experience in getting this refunded?
Thanks!
