I don't think that's doable, since they don't have a "pay later" mechanism on their website (unlike KQ, for example), if you try to book an award ticket but for any reason fail to pay, you end up with a temporary booking which you have no way of completing without calling.
I actually take it back, was just about to make a reservation on AF website, opened AF website on another tab to check for award ticket options before paying, which "invalidated" my previous process and the order has stayed in "waiting for payment" status and I could complete the process.
Still unknown if you can call an agent to create the temporary booking and then pay online though, but seems a bit more likely.
