This was my favorite hotel in Amsterdam, gay, friendly and immaculate. I had tried to make reservations awhile back. A couple months before the date, they were fully booked. As the date got closer, I tried again, hopeful that there had been a cancellation. When I tried calling, there was no answer for several days in a row. I even had the phone company do some investigation, as I was convinced there was some sort of problem with the phones or the number. They were unable to help me.

I then asked a friend who lives there to walk by the hotel and see what he could find out. He told me that there was a light on inside, but otherwise no activity. Finally, a few weeks later, he sent me a copy of one of the local rags which announced that the owner of the hotel had died. This was sad news for me, as I stayed there with a dear friend in 1981 and didn't return until about 1995 with my then partner. I was treated like a long lost friend - the owner insisting he remembered me.

I too have wondered will happen with the property and wonder if anyone in Amsterdam knows what is going on.
