My recent QF1502 had nearly everything blocked from the moment when I redeemed points for two seats sometimes in November 2015. The best I was able to grab during the booking was 17A/17C. When I was doing on-line check-in for myself and Mrs when it did open, I easily got 6A/6C and all emergency exit seats were available at that time... The flight was (at the end) half full...
