What should I do to get upgraded frequently on Air Canada planes (which offer the only direct route)? Am I better off buying tickets on the United site for the AC codeshare? Will I ever get upgraded doing this? Should I buy on the AC site and put the miles toward my UA account? Or forget UA altogether and just start earning miles and status on AC?

I appreciate the advice. Thank you!

If "every few weeks" results in 21 trips, I'd suggest earning status on Air Canada, as you'd make Super Elite, and you'll have a ton of perks and upgrades that you will never get as UA*G.
