Carry on bag allowance is not cumulative and not based on how many flights you are flying. If you were doing connections and had four flights total you are not allowed four carry ons. You are still only allowed one carry on and one personal item per flight, no matter how many flights or airlines your travel involves.

Oh, I forgot to specify. I am going one way with American airlines and one way with delta they were booked separately. But is it one carry on and one personal item per person?
