Thrifty Blue Chip points accrual
Under Thrifty's new system, rather than getting one free day for every 16 days' rental, you get 1 point per dollar spent. A free day costs 625 points as an example, or 2550 for a week.
I do a lot of long-ish rentals at one location and most often, Thrifty is the cheapest by far - usually half the price of anyone else - even though their location is not nearly as convenient (a shuttle vs being able to walk to all other companies). So I was racking up free days like crazy. When they transferred over to the new system, all my free days converted to points. All good.
I just completed my first rental since the new system started. 24 days and the cost was $430 ($270 base rate, the rest taxes and fees). I assumed I'd get 430 points which is still less than one free day for every 16 rental days but ok. Nope. I got 270 points. So at this rate, it will take me over 50 rental days to get one free day? Who is the genius who thought this was a good change? Probably the same guys who made the changes at Starbucks.
I've scoured the T&C and it says "Earn 1 point per qualifying U.S. $1 spent on rentals. Point redemptions apply to per day time and mileage charges only. ". No mention of earning on base rate only but it clearly says redemptions apply to the rental only and taxes etc. are extra. My bad for not clarifying but I just assumed it would be on the total. What a rip off. And no where, anywhere, do they spell this out. I'll still use Thrifty when the savings are massive but I am definitely changing to miles earning and definitely going elsewhere when rates at other companies are comparable.
I guess the point of this is to ask if anyone can point me to where it says that 'Earn 1 point qualifying US $1 spent..." applies only to the base rate?
