IME traveling in the off-season rates have behaved about the same as they do domestically. The prime locations are always going to be pricy, but the ones more at the edge of the metro area still have had good prices for me.

I would prepay early if it got me into (for example) the Champs Elysées location at a good price. I wouldn't do it to stay at the end of the metro line.
