As mentioned, a genuine case like you describe shouldn't be an issue. They may ask a question or two and request some proof or may just be satisfied with the reason provided from the get go. In your case I would go for it and request a merge.

Overall, they have been a bit jumpy of late on the KF side and are auditing transactions like credit card transfers and switching of nominees and so forth which is fair enough, but surprises some folks.
