This is the same place I stayed at back in April. If there is any gay life in Boca Chica, it would be a surprise to me. Sometime a while ago I posted a little bit about the DR, do a search for that. The Hamaca is sheltered from the locals--as soon as you leave into Boca Chica you'll be pestered. Santo Domingo is a good hour drive from the Hamaca...you might want to try the Aire club as I did.

I think a rental car would be a bad idea (the roads are pretty lousy and traffic rules aren't really in effect). You'll probably want to do a tour or something if it gets boring swimming and tanning (and eating), in which case transport is provided.
