Because of the approach routes, and the distance from Manhattan, you can't expect a great view on arrival into JFK. Most flights from LAX will land on 13L (some nerd here will know what that arrival is called ) in which case the only view is on the left, but it's brief and not that great.

The only really good view is on TPACs, where you cross over Manhattan at 10,000ft before heading out over the Atlantic and turning around for final approach.
