Bought a new bag from Victornix because they pay the freight in and out.
I did not realize Victorinox pays the freight both ways. I have several Tourbach pieces which have the equivalent of the no-matter-what lifetime warranty which I used on a rolling garment bag whose extendable handle would not retract consistently. In that case I had dropped it off at a local repair shop in Dallas referred by Victorinox and picked it up a couple of weeks later. Interestingly enough, there was another bag that was exactly the same on the rack though I didn't know what was being repaired on it.
That said, I followed a similar process on a Briggs & Riley tote that had torn an inside pocket which I didn't discovered until after the fact. I also dropped it off at an local repair shop B&R suggested in Houston and picked it up a week later.
Both processes were straightforward and satisfactorily resolved the problems in my mind. However, if I am reading what you are saying correctly, should a problem necessitate sending to a repair center rather than local, I would be responsible for the freight in B&R's case?
