What do you mean by a "true" AA flight? I had it happen a few weeks ago on what historically had been a US route, but is that distinction still meaningful?
I was at the gate at T-30 and they already had the "overheads are full, you need to check your bags" spiel going - boarding must have started really early. When I walked up the elite walkway, the agent said "I hope you're in First". I said I was, and she gave me the super-secret valet-check tag.
