Yes although I think the overall offering on this Lloyds card is reasonable (esp for those not interested in the BA Amex 241), they've really got their knickers in a twist on this one!
I had major issues trying to get it clarified when I took the card out last year but in the end after asking the question multiple times of multiple agents (and having to keep stepping in to interrupt them before they transferred me to Avios.com!) they all seemed to agree that it was all based around the card account opening anniversary date - the spend requirement was to be met within 12 months of this date. At that point everything resets, a new annual fee is taken, and you can start earning towards your new voucher.
This is certainly how it worked with me - March opening date and rapidly headed towards target in the first few months when the bonus Avios were on offer. However I knew I'd have no immediate use for the voucher therefore I delayed triggering it. After multiple clarifications I let it go past December and then triggered mid-February. Much to my relief an upgrade voucher was duly applied to my Avios.com account (plus I was emailed and sent a snail mail letter about it!!) and now my account anniversary has passed I've started accumulating spend towards another one.
On the other issue (tracking spend) - they're completely hopeless! I managed to get someone to calculate the figure once and it was actually higher than I thought it would be (no idea how) - given that if you don't want to trigger it I'd leave a reasonable safety margin. In general though I just keep a running total in a spreadsheet - why they can't have an easy progress bar a la Amex I don't know!
Next bit of fun will be spending it and including connecting flights - as it's via Avios.com I won't have the benefit of the additional economy award availability I get as a Gold!
