As of December 2015, you can once again set alerts for saver award inventory on United (specifically fare classes X, I, and O). Here is the thread for reference: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...ts-return.html

OP could set an alert for saver space on ExpertFlyer and be alerted when it became available.

EDIT: Looks like the last post beat me to it by 1 minute.
