I just returned from Berlin and got advice from a friend to stay at the Brandenburger Hof. I moved out after the first night because it was VERY expensive, poor service and not all that well appointed. Though not a "gay" hotel, I found that the Swissotel at Kurfensdamm was GREAT. Pricing was right also, check either their web site or hoteldiscount.com and you should be able to get by at EUR100/night.
