How long is required before you declare a flight a failure? A week, a month, half year, a year? What criteria do you use, and which are your sources for data?
29 to be precise. My main point is how long did it take for DL to establish a foothold on LAX-SYD? I remember when DL announced LAX-SYD, there were quite a few sceptics as DL only had LAX market and connections to make SYD work as their JBV with what has become VA was not even established as a codesharing agreement. DFW-HKG has been an exception to the rule for repeatedly stated reasons. AA is going to be just fine, especially once the amended JBV is approved. They have the right plane and configuration for the route. The 77W carries the same amount of fuel as DL's 77Ls, however, AA's 77Ws have better fuel burn due to using GE-115B engines, instead of the slightly derated GE-110Bs. There's many reasons the 77W sold much better than Boeing expected and the 77L was ultimately a disappointment and a niche aircraft. (The non-ER 777-300 sold more one aircraft than the total of 77Ls built.) The better than expected fuel burn, extra capacity, and enhanced range made the 77W the best selling widebody variant in history.
