At my nearest Staples I was told this week by a clerk and then the manager they are required now to call the CC issuer for ALL GC purchase of at least $25. Anyone else been told this at a Staples?
For the past 6-8 weeks my local Staples now requires manager approval for any Visa/MC gift card purchase. Some of the managers know me and just give the cashier an "ok" waive from a distance, the ones that don't want to see my credit card and ID which I have at the ready. Once they verify they tell the cashier to go ahead and walk off. One manager told me they instituted the store policy since they got burned for around $3K or so (he said they'd get the $ back but the paperwork was a big headache).
