cxfan1960 posted that when he was on that flight a year ago, Y was overbooked so he got upgraded to J.
I was curious what the loads/cabin-class bookings looked like for the route.
While by no means are the 3 examples I posted representative of all Dragonair flights from HKT to HKG, I just thought I'd share a couple of random dates.
So, looking at the first flight I listed, KA 213 on June 8:
J9 C9 D0 I0 Y9 B9 H9 K2 M1 L1 V0 S0 N0 Q0 O0
J, C, D, and i are different fares in J - Business Class
Y and B tend to be the full-fare economy tickets
The rest are economy at various price points. Most airlines have a number of different price points for First Class (usually F and A), Business Class J, C, D, I and sometimes a few others like R for example), Premium Economy and then Economy.
When the lowest fare in a class sells out, then the next available fare is higher.
I = 0 means there are no tickets left for the lowest (discounted) Business Class
J = 9, C = 9 means there are still a total of 9 seats in Business Class left for sale.
Note to others: feel free to correct me and/or add info to help OP. Thanks
EDIT: Forgot to mention, the numbers I posted are from Expert Flyer.
Thank you so much for taking the time to explain it to me, looks like I have nothing to worry about
