It's possible that there are grass roots movements in parts of the country to repeal these things (remember the Ryan White/Kokomo thing?), but most of the time, fundamentalist groups like Falwell's are the ones who campaign to put forth regressive ballot initiatives like these, which, in my mind, makes me question whether or not these are religious or political organizations.
